The Sd.Kfz.251 half-track troop transport was used extensively by the Wehrmacht during World War II on all fronts. It was powered by a Maybach 6 cylinder petrol engine and could reach speeds of 55 km/h, even in difficult terrain. The vehicle was designed primarily for infantry combat, but during World War II, many versions were developed to suit increasingly specialized operations. The Sd.Kfz is a semi-track. 251/10 (Schutzenpanzerwagen), used as a platoon command vehicle, was armed with a 37 mm PaK 36 anti-tank gun with the protective shield. The cannon could not be used against battleship tanks that were more advanced. Production continued until 1942, when it was found to no longer be effective.
